New cruise ship Quantum of the Seas
October 31, 2014, in a solemn atmosphere to its rightful owner Royal Caribbean International will be transferred to a new liner Quantum of the Seas.
The new Quantum of the Seas liner with a displacement of 168 thousand tons, a hull length of 348 m, a width of 41 m and a draft of 8.5 m will become the second largest passenger vessel after the Oasis of the Seas of the numerous fleet by the aforementioned cruise company. The first three of the same liner, Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas will be put into operation in November 2014, April 2015 and autumn 2016 respectively.
The new liner will go to its first cruise season 2014-2015 in the waters of the South China Sea, sailing from the port of Bayon, New Jersey. From the end of June 2015, the passenger ship will begin to perform three-day and eight-day cruises between the ports of China, Japan and South Korea.
On the beginning of the construction of a modern liner was announced on February 11, 2011 at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg. The project of the vessel was named Sunshine. On the same day, the first vessel of the same name series Quantum was named. More detailed information on the technical data of the new liner was disclosed only in April 2013. It was originally planned to build four passenger ships, but for unknown reasons in January 2014, a decision was made to cancel the order for the fourth board.
I will not once again list the technical characteristics of the new liner, but I will draw your attention to the innovations of this ship. So in addition to the traditional entertainment, surfing simulator and climbing wall, a vertical wind tunnel will be presented on board. In addition, the most spectacular attraction will be the observation tower, located on the leading edge of the upper deck. This 7-tones design with a glass capsule at the end and a 41-meter «hand» can take on board a group of 14 people and carry over the ship at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. One of the novelties will be a large indoor sports hall with a full-size basketball court, located on deck 15, which can be transformed into a dance floor.A two-story music hall between the 3rd and 4th decks will also serve as a night club and a small music hall.
Unlike the previously built Voyager, Freedom and Oasis liners, the Quantum-class will not have a traditional ice rink and a Promenade in the center of the ship.
Unlike previous projects, new liners will not have a main restaurant, where traditional lunches are served during cruises. Instead, the guests will be offered a concept of dynamic nutrition, used on the ships of Norwegian Cruise Line, which feature is the preliminary evening order of the upcoming day.
