Авіаносний корабель Shahid Bagheri (C110-4)

The Iranian Navy has commissioned the aviation-capable ship Shahid Bagheri. The vessel departed its home port of Bandar Abbas for initial sea trials on November 28, 2024, and was officially commissioned on February 6, 2025.

The ship, which Iranian sources describe as “Iran’s first aircraft carrier,” was created through the conversion of the commercial container ship Perarin, measuring approximately 240 meters in length. The conversion work was carried out by the South Korean shipbuilding company HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The vessel was modified to accommodate a flight deck and a ski-jump ramp for aircraft takeoff. The retention of the original superstructure, which spans the full width of the hull, made a conventional aircraft carrier layout with a straight longitudinal flight deck impossible. As a result, the runway was positioned at an angle to the ship’s longitudinal axis, allowing for sufficient length for takeoff and landing operations.

Shahid Bagheri is primarily intended for the transport and launch of unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as for helicopter operations. The converted ship has a cruising range of approximately 22,000 nautical miles. The length of the flight deck runway is about 180 meters.
