On August 14, 1968, the tug Spiekeroog and the Langeoog were put into service together for the 1st Supply Squadron. They were stationed at the naval base in Kiel. The merger of the 1st and 2nd Supply Squadrons into the Trossgeschwader on March 25, 1997 did not change anything for the Spiekeroog, which remained stationed in Kiel. At times, the Spiekeroog was is assigned to the 1st and 3rd submarine squadrons for security duties.
On February 8, 1975, there was a collision between the Spiekeroog and the Liberian freighter Butterfly in the Kiel Fjord with only minor damage.
The Spiekeroog was the last ship of the class to be decommissioned on November 28, 2023.
