Unique container ship

The race of sea transportation forces the company to come up with new ways of delivering goods, cheapening both the transportation itself and the value of the imported goods.

Recently, as part of the modern concept, shipbuilders are increasingly resorting to reducing the unit cost by increasing the number of containers being transported, but many of the carriers' companies place orders for the creation of commercial seagoing vessels whose ship installations operate on alternative fuels. An example of this is the construction in November 2014 of the world's first ultra large container ship operating on liquefied natural gas.

The container ship was the MV Sajir launched at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea, which started operating along the established route Asia-Northern Europe. The customer of the unique vessel was the Arab company United Arab Shipping Company (UASC). According to the program of construction, 17 new eco-efficient container ships are to be transferred, which can create competition for even the most famous companies for carriers.

The newest vessel Sajir is capable of accommodating up to 15,000 containers of a twenty-foot equivalent. According to the employees of the shipping company, preliminary calculations show that due to the cost-effectiveness of container ships of the newest series, the company will reach the level of energy efficiency of 50 percent by 2025.

Of the 17 container ships, will be built ten ships project A15 with a capacity of 15,000 containers and six vessels project A18 with a capacity of 18,800 TEU, which will be built in the shipyards Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries by mid-2016.

According to the president and chief executive officer of UASC Jorn Hinge these high-performance vessels will greatly contribute to reducing the amount of fuel. Very soon, the staff of the company will have absolutely new vessels, which will become the most environmentally friendly in the world. Containers of the A15 project with a capacity of 15,000 containers will meet new standards in terms of safety and efficiency, «the director said.

By combining the leading innovations in the design of ships and ship technologies, rational use of energy and stacking containers in new vessels, will determine the modern standards in sea container transportation.

Of course, such ocean vessels, fully operating on liquefied natural gas, will not appear soon, so the new Sajir vessel is still equipped with a diesel power plant, but already has a CO2 emission level reduced to 22 percent. The environmental features of the A15 vessels are further underscored by the fact that these sea vessels are designed for later upgrading of LNG at a later stage. In addition, all new vessels are equipped with a modern ballast water treatment system.

The concept of LNG-ready is no longer new and recently it has been decided that ships, constructed in the future, will receive a special designation DNV GL, which will mean that the ships of the new generation comply with the environmental standards of IMO.
