German shipbuilding companies have signed a cooperation agreement to build F127 frigates. The document envisages the creation of a joint venture that will take over the construction of new F127 ships based on the MEKO A-400 project.

TKMS will play a leading role in the development and construction of the ships.

Construction of the first F127 frigate will begin in 2025 and will be commissioned in 2034. The modular production will take place at several sites: the ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems shipyard in Wismar and NVL's plants in Hamburg and Volgast.

In the spring of this year, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems disclosed some information about the appearance of the future F127 frigates.

The ships will have a total displacement of 12,000 tonnes and a hull length of 220 metres. The crew will be 250 people. The equipment includes the American Aegis missile defence system.

Although the new ships are to replace the F124 frigates, of which the German Navy has three, six F127 frigates are planned for construction.
